If you are going to have your breasts augmented, you want to make sure that you do everything that you can to facilitate your healing. So, what are some things that you should do post-op to make sure that you heal well?
Take Pain Medication As Prescribed
The first week or so after your surgery, you are going to be in pain. Your doctor may prescribe pain medication for you as well as suggest several over-the-counter options that you can try. You may be tempted to try to tough it out and not take the medication, but the thing is that pain can actually slow down your healing. If you are controlling your pain adequately, your body will be able to heal faster. The best way to do that is to make sure that you are taking your pain medications as scheduled. That way, you stay out ahead of the pain instead of trying to catch up to it.
Wear Support Bras
After your surgery, your breasts and the areas around your incisions are going to be sore and swollen. You want to make sure that you are wearing a good post-surgery support bra 24/7. Those bras are similar to a compression type bandage and will help to support your breasts and give you some help with the swelling. Since you will need to wear a bra all day, every day for a few weeks after surgery, you may want to make sure that you get two or more bras. That way, you can wear one and wash one. That can help keep your incisions and surgical area clean and healthy, especially in the days immediately following surgery when you might have some perfectly normal seepage from the incisions. As a note to this, if you do notice any foul order, discolored seepage, or an excess of blood, you should immediately contact your surgeon to get checked out.
Sleep on Your Back
Even if you are normally not a back sleeper, you are going to want to do that during your recovery. You will also want to get a lot of pillows and prop yourself. That will help support your body and keep your swelling down. You may also want to consider sleeping in a recliner chair if you have one since you can easily adjust it to the right angle for your comfort.
